Joining Details

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the British Offshore Sailing School as your course provider. Whether you are joining us for a shore based course, a practical course or a cruise, we hope that you enjoy your time with us.

In order to make joining us as simple as possible, we have put together this Joining Pack.

ALL PRACTICAL COURSES ARE LIVEABOARD COURSES, SO NO ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION IS REQUIRED ASHORE

Practical courses are run from our base in Hamble Point Marina. We have secure, free parking within the marina. You should aim to arrive at our training facility in Hamble by 08:45hrs. The marina details are:

The departure time on the last day of your course is 16:00hrs. Yachts are back at our base from 15:00hrs for clearing up the yacht, debriefs, the signing of logbooks and issuing certificates.

We do not pre book accommodation, or bunk allocations. Allocations are done on your arrival onboard, to best suit the make up of the crew for that course. Regrettably we do not offer, nor do we charge a premium for single cabin occupancy. You may be asked to share a cabin, with someone of the same gender. Ordinarily this will be the main saloon area, or the fore cabin which have single berths.

Catering:

Food onboard including vegetarian and Vegan options are included in the cost of the course. On a five day course & on a three day weekend, students should allow for one evening meal ashore.  All other catering is provided onboard.

Please make us aware of your dietary requirements prior to the course. We always do our best to accommodate other dietary needs, however we would ask you to contact us to discuss your requirements. Please be advised there is a surcharge of £3.50 per day to cover any specific dietary requirements; where different foods need to be purchased to that which we provide on board. This includes gluten and dairy free alternatives. If you prefer, we can provide you with a list of specific items and you are welcome to bring along these to supplement the catering onboard.

Wet Weather Gear:

For practical courses or cruises, wet weather gear is available to hire for £7.50 per day.

Certificates:

Some RYA certificates require a passport photograph. You will be advised in advance if this is required. If a photograph is requred, please remember to bring one with you. Regrettably we are unable to issue your certificate without this. If you provide us with a photograph retrospectively, then there will be a charge of £10 to send your certificate by recorded delivery.

Mooring fees:

Mooring fees on RYA practical courses are split between students on board. For a 5 day course during high season, you should allow around £30 - £40 for the duration of your course.

ALL SHOREBASED COURSES TAKE PLACE AT PORT HAMBLE MARINA

You should aim to arrive at the training room in Port Hamble by 08:45 hours. The centre details are:

GPS Postcode: SO31 4QD or search for Port Hamble marina on Google maps. what3words ///finally.imply.allows

As you enter the marina, you will see a white building on the right – opposite Force 4 Chandlery. Our training room is on the top floor, above Banana Wharf and the Marina Office on the 1st floor. Go up the external steps, walk around the marina office, inside the last door, and up the indoor steps to the training room.

If you are coming by car, a parking permit will be required. We can provide this and it entitles you to free parking, however it doesn’t guarantee that a space will be available, especially during peak summer periods. On arrival, please park in the Pay & Display Area and obtain a free ticket from the machine for 3hrs. You can collect your permit from the instructor.

CANCELATION & TRAVEL INSURANCE

We would advise students to have a travel insurance policy in place, in case unforeseen circumstances prevent you from joining your course. Regrettably we are unable to move courses dates,  within 6 weeks of the course commencement date. We will always try to fill your place, should you not be able to attend. If we are able to do so, then we are happy to rebook your course. If we are not able to do so, particularly at short notice - then it would be deemed a cancellation.

We hope that the material provided  here contains all the information you need. If however you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on +44 (0) 2380 457733 or click the following link to  contact us

We look forward to seeing you soon!
