Southern Ireland Cruise

This sailing cruise across the Irish sea to south-west ireland is rich in deep-water and small secluded anchorages, this special extended cruise offers you the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful and unspoilt coastline in Europe. After a sail down the English Channel and across the Celtic Sea (approximately 48 hours), you will make landfall off the magical Emerald Isle.

Cruising via Cork and Kinsale, which is legendary for its culinary delights and brightly coloured cottages, this trip aims to explore the coast between Ballycotton bay and Cape Clear.

Visit Glandore, where yachts are advised to avoid “Adam and hug Eve”, Castle Townsend, Barlogue Creek, Shirkin Island and Baltimore. A brisk sail around the Fastnet rock is often included in this adventurous cruise before returning to Hamble via the Scilly Iles or West Country



Southern Ireland Cruise - 14 Days Itinerary


Evening - Arrive at Hamble Point Marina - Introduction to yacht. Safety briefing. Explanation to where everything is kept. Passage planning and discussion about the cruise ahead.
20:00 Ashore for a drink, bite to eat and get to know the Skipper and other people on the cruise. Sleep aboard the yacht.

Day One:

Wake up - Early Start. Preparation, weather update and deck briefing. Depart the Solent for Poole or Weymouth. Practice: Conventional and electronic navigation. Course to steer, Estimated positions, collision avoidance, coastal passage making and pilotage techniques. Moor up.

Day Two:

Early start sail off towards Cork - practice coastal and offshore navigation, tidal gates and watch keeping.

Day Three:

At Sea - Coastal and Offshore Navigation - Watch Keeping - Night navigation

Day Four:

After a second night at sea - arrive in Cork and moor up at the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven.

Day Five:

Wake up and sail to Kinsale. Moor up and explore ashore.

Day Six:

Wake up and have breakfast. A leisurely day to rest and look around Kinsale.

Day Seven:

Sail from Kinsale to Castle Townsend. Anchor overnight.

Day Eight:

Wake up and have leisurely breakfast, wander ashore and explore. Sail from Castle Townsend to Barlogue Creek and anchor for lunch. practice. Afternoon sail to Shirkin Island, moor up over-night and explore ashore.

Day Nine:

Early morning sail from Shirkin Island - around the Fastnet rock to Cape Clear.

Day Ten:

Sail to Baltimore and stop overnight. Passage planning for return trip across the Celtic Sea - to the Isle of Scillies.

Day Eleven:

Depart Baltimore for overnight passage to Isles of Scilly - Daylight entry and anchor of Tresco. Spend the day exploring ashore.

Day Twelve:

Wake up and have leisurely breakfast set sail for Falmouth, Plymouth or Brixham.

Day Thirteen:

Passage planning and preparation - Depart with the tide and spend overnight at sea practice coastal and offshore navigation, pilotage and watch keeping.

Day Fourteen:

Arrive off the Needles early hours of the morning in time to catch the flood tide up the Solent back to Hamble Point. Pack up, Clean up, debrief, logbooks and depart.
