2019 Round The Island Race

30th June – 2nd July £385pp

New for 2017, we have a youth entry in this year’s iconic race. It’s a perfect opportunity to find out what competitive racing is all about. The RTIR is the biggest yacht race in the world with around 1,500 yachts and upwards of 12,000 sailors competing! Round the Island Race course  

We are offering those aged 16 – 19 inclusive, who have sailed with us before and hold a minimum of an RYA Competent Crew certificate, the opportunity to get involved. No racing experience is required. Under the guidance of our experienced skipper and mate, team members will be actively involved with all aspects of racing the yacht, from sitting on the rail to trimming spinnakers.  Places are strictly limited to 7 and will be offered on a first come basis.

The cost includes 2 night’s accommodation on-board, all on-board food, mooring fees, race entry fees, wet weather gear and all safety equipment.  Don’t miss out on this amazing experience!

Round The Island Race Youth Team - Itinerary

FRIDAY

  • 18:00 - Arrive at Hamble - Check in at School reception. Introduction to Skipper, mate and fellow race crew
  • 18:30 Move on to yacht, kit stowage
  • Explanation to where everything is kept. General safety brief and discussion on the weekend ahead
  • Prepare the yacht for racing, including sails and a run through of operations - to include all lines and their functions and the correct use of winches
  • 20:00 dinner on-board
  • Sleep aboard the yacht..

SATURDAY

  • 05:00 Wake up and have breakfast. - Preparations to depart, to include, a deck briefing on all the workings of the various ropes and sails. 
  • 06:00 Depart towards the start line off Cowes - MOB drill en route
  • Start time yet to be finalised
  • Sail around the Island, westerly start down through the Western Solent and out passed the Needles
  • Finish off Cowes
  • 20:30 Berth for the night in Cowes
  • Dinner on board
  • Sleep aboard the yacht  

SUNDAY

  • 08:00 Wake up and have breakfast.
  • 09:30 Prepare for sea
  • 10:30 Move off to a planned destination for lunch, leisurely sail on route
  • Return to Hamble Point Marina and prepare yacht for handover.
  • 16:00 Debrief, Sign logbooks and Depart
