We offer regular RYA Navigation courses throughout the year at BOSS shorebased training facilities in Hamble Point Marina.
RYA Day Skipper Theory
The RYA Day Skipper theory course is the introductory RYA course for those who have either completed the Competent crew course or who have equivalent experience. This course is a pre-requesite to attending the practical Day Skipper course and can be completed in four days if attended as part of a combined theory and practical course.
RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory
The advanced RYA navigation course is the RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster theory course. This six day shorebased course is suitible for skippers who are qualified to RYA Day Skipper standard. Candidates for this course should ensure that they have a good grasp of all the elements that are covered in the RYA Day Skipper theory course. A copy of the Day Skipper theory syllabus can be view here. This course is a must for anyone who is planning to take the MCA Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore exam.
RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory
The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean course focuses very heavily on celestial navigation techniques; using the sun, stars and planets to pinpoint your position when offshore. The course also includes ocean weather and passage planning which is a must for anyone who who is planning to undertake an Ocean passage.
In addition to being suitable for leisure yachtmen these courses also meet standard required by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for skippers of small commercial vessels and Deck Officers on large yachts (over 24m).
